Search for a free CSM practice test and you will find hundreds. Almost all of them share the same four weaknesses.

They rely on general Scrum familiarity. This is the specific trap. Working on a Scrum team teaches you how your team does Scrum, which is frequently not what the Scrum Guide says. The exam tests the Guide, not common practice, and the gap between them is where candidates lose marks.

They are imprecise about the details. Only the Product Owner can cancel a Sprint, and only if the Sprint Goal becomes obsolete. The Daily Scrum has a fixed 15 minute timebox that does not scale with Sprint length. Incomplete items return to the Product Backlog rather than automatically carrying forward. These specific facts separate a 60 percent score from a 74 percent score.

They use pre 2020 material. The 2020 Scrum Guide removed the three questions from the Daily Scrum, introduced the Product Goal, and replaced roles with accountabilities. Older material contradicts the current Guide directly.

They give you a letter, not a reason. CSM distractors are built from plausible but incorrect Scrum practice. Understanding why a widely used team habit is not actually what the Guide prescribes is the entire learning value.

Every question is tagged by domain and by topic. That tagging is what makes the personalised score report possible, and it is the single feature that separates this from every other free CSM test available online.

Scrum Events carry 28 percent of this practice test, the heaviest area, with Framework and Theory, Roles, and Artifacts and Scaling each carrying 24 percent.

Events is where the precise details cluster: who can cancel a Sprint, the exact timeboxes, what happens to incomplete work. Domain scoring shows immediately whether your gaps sit in the detailed event mechanics or in the broader framework theory.

A practice test used badly produces false confidence, which is worse than no practice test at all. Four rules.

• Take it under real conditions. Block the full 60 minutes. No notes, no phone, no interruptions. The discomfort is the point, because the real exam will be uncomfortable too.
• Do not check answers as you go. This is the main reason the answer key is not published alongside the download. Complete all 50 questions first, then submit.
• Read every explanation when the key arrives, including for questions you got right. Some of your correct answers reflected genuine knowledge and some were a lucky choice between two plausible options. Only the explanation tells you which.
• Retake it after two to three weeks of targeted study. The change in your domain scores between attempt one and attempt two is the clearest readiness signal you will get anywhere.

• Candidates preparing for or having just completed an accredited CSM course who want a readiness check.
• Team members moving into a Scrum Master role for the first time.
