Search for a free PMP practice test and you will find hundreds. Almost all of them share the same four weaknesses.

They are too short. A 25 question quiz cannot reproduce the cognitive fatigue of 180 questions across nearly four hours. Candidates consistently report that questions 130 onward feel materially harder than questions 1 to 30. The questions have not changed. Concentration has. A short quiz never exposes that, and exam day will.

They are unweighted. If a test gives you 60 percent Process questions and 15 percent People questions, your score is measuring the wrong thing entirely. The real exam allocates 42 percent to People. A candidate who is strong on earned value and weak on conflict resolution will score well on a badly weighted practice test and then fail the real one.

They are outdated. A large volume of free material still circulating online was written for the pre 2021 exam, when agile content was under 10 percent of the paper. Today roughly half the exam tests agile and hybrid approaches. Practising on that material does not just fail to help, it actively misprepares you.

They give you a letter, not a reason. Knowing the answer is C teaches you nothing. Knowing why C is correct, and specifically why B looked plausible but fails, is where the learning actually happens.

Every question is tagged by domain and by topic. That tagging is what makes the personalised score report possible, and it is the single feature that separates this from every other free PMP test available online.

Consider two candidates who both score 68 percent overall. The first scored 80 percent in People and 60 percent in Process. The second scored 55 percent in People and 78 percent in Process. Their totals are almost identical. Their remaining study plans should look completely different.

Because Process carries 50 percent of the exam, the first candidate is losing more raw marks than the headline figure suggests. Because People carries 42 percent, the second candidate has a serious problem that a single overall percentage completely conceals.

An overall score tells you whether you are close. A domain score tells you what to do on Monday morning.

A practice test used badly produces false confidence, which is worse than no practice test at all. Four rules.

• Take it under real conditions. Block the full 230 minutes. No notes, no phone, no interruptions. The discomfort is the point, because the real exam will be uncomfortable too.
• Do not check answers as you go. This is the main reason the answer key is not published alongside the download. Complete all 180 questions first, then submit.
• Read every explanation when the key arrives, including for questions you got right. Some of your correct answers reflected genuine knowledge and some were a lucky choice between two plausible options. Only the explanation tells you which.
• Retake it after two to three weeks of targeted study. The change in your domain scores between attempt one and attempt two is the clearest readiness signal you will get anywhere.

• Candidates who have completed their 35 contact hours and want a candid baseline before booking the exam.
• Candidates midway through self study who suspect their preparation is uneven but cannot identify where the gaps are.
• Candidates who have already failed one attempt and need to know precisely which domain cost them the pass.
• Working professionals deciding whether PMP is realistic alongside a full time job, who want to see the actual difficulty before committing money and months.
