Search for a free CEH practice test and you will find hundreds. Almost all of them share the same four weaknesses.

They assume a fixed pass mark. CEH uses psychometric scaling, so the required percentage varies between 60 and 85 percent by exam form. Candidates who target 70 percent because that is the common threshold elsewhere may receive a harder form and fall short.

They over index on reconnaissance. Reconnaissance and Footprinting is the largest domain at 21 percent, and it is also the most fun to study, so candidates over prepare it. Web Application Security at 16 percent and System Attack Phases at 17 percent together carry more, and are studied far less.

They ignore the defensive half. CEH is a defensive certification that teaches attacker methodology so you can build better protection. Questions routinely ask for the correct countermeasure rather than the attack technique. Material that covers only offensive content leaves half the exam unprepared.

They give you a letter, not a reason. On a question distinguishing when a Gateway VPC endpoint is correct versus a NAT Gateway, or which scan type produces which port state response, the reasoning is the entire learning value.

Every question is tagged by domain and by topic. That tagging is what makes the personalised score report possible, and it is the single feature that separates this from every other free CEH test available online.

Reconnaissance and Footprinting carries 21 percent, System Attack Phases 17 percent and Web Application Security 16 percent. Those three account for 54 percent of the paper.

The remaining six domains share 46 percent, including Cloud, Mobile, IoT and OT security which candidates frequently neglect entirely. Domain scoring shows whether your preparation covers the full breadth or clusters in the areas you find most interesting.

An overall score tells you whether you are close. A domain score tells you what to do on Monday morning.

A practice test used badly produces false confidence, which is worse than no practice test at all. Four rules.

• Take it under real conditions. Block the full 240 minutes. No notes, no phone, no interruptions. The discomfort is the point, because the real exam will be uncomfortable too.
• Do not check answers as you go. This is the main reason the answer key is not published alongside the download. Complete all 125 questions first, then submit.
• Read every explanation when the key arrives, including for questions you got right. Some of your correct answers reflected genuine knowledge and some were a lucky choice between two plausible options. Only the explanation tells you which.
• Retake it after two to three weeks of targeted study. The change in your domain scores between attempt one and attempt two is the clearest readiness signal you will get anywhere.
