PRINCE2 7 Practitioner Exam in 2026: 12 Tips That Push You Past the Pass Line

PRINCE2 7 Practitioner is a scenario based exam. The scenario is a 1 to 2 page project situation followed by 70 questions across 6 to 8 question groups, each testing a specific principle, practice or process. Each question has 4 options. You have 150 minutes, giving 2 minutes 8 seconds per question. The exam is open book but only the official PRINCE2 7 manual is allowed. You must score 42 out of 70 (60 percent) to pass.

• Tip 1: Complete Foundation first. Do not attempt Practitioner without Foundation solid. Roughly 40 percent of Practitioner difficulty is Foundation content applied to scenarios.
• Tip 2: Read the PRINCE2 7 manual cover to cover twice. First pass fast for the shape, second pass slow with a highlighter for management products, roles and responsibility charts.
• Tip 3: Bookmark aggressively. Use physical tabs for each of the 7 principles, 7 practices and the process model. During the exam, seconds count.
• Tip 4: Take 3 full length sample exams in the last 2 weeks before the real exam. PeopleCert sample papers plus one third party (ILX or ITpreneurs) is the standard set.

• Tip 5: Partially correct. The option is true but incomplete (missing a mandatory element). Common trap for management product content questions. Read every option to end.
• Tip 6: Plausible but out of scope. The option describes a real management activity but not one PRINCE2 defines at this point in the process. If the manual does not say it, it is wrong.
• Tip 7: Correct principle, wrong process. The answer describes a valid PRINCE2 activity but from a different process than the one the question asks about. Always check which process the question is scoping.
• Tip 8: Correct role, wrong responsibility. The option assigns a valid PRINCE2 activity to a role that does not own it in the responsibility chart. Bookmark the responsibility chart page for fast checking.

• Tip 9: Do the exam in 3 passes. Pass 1 answer every question you can in under 90 seconds. Pass 2 return to flagged questions with more manual lookup. Pass 3 review all answers in the last 30 minutes.
• Tip 10: Never leave a question blank. There is no negative marking. If time runs low, guess the option that most closely mirrors PRINCE2 doctrine (governance, tailoring, defined roles).
• Tip 11: Trust the scenario. Every question is answerable from the scenario plus the manual. If your answer requires assumptions the scenario does not state, you have picked the wrong option.
• Tip 12: In the last 30 minute review, re read the scenario one more time. Roughly 15 percent of candidates flip 3 to 5 answers on the final review because they missed a scenario detail on first pass. This alone can be the difference between pass and fail.

Three failure patterns cost candidates the exam. First, over reliance on the manual during the exam. Every lookup costs 30 to 60 seconds; you cannot afford more than 15 to 20 lookups in 150 minutes. Second, skipping the responsibility chart during study. Roughly 12 to 15 questions map directly to who does what. Third, ignoring tailoring. PRINCE2 7 doubled down on tailoring content and 8 to 10 questions test it explicitly. Do not skip the tailoring chapter.
